Darrin serves as of counsel to the firm and specializes in the areas of entertainment, copyright, media, and corporate law. Although he brings over 20 years of legal experience to the firm, his distinctive insight comes from also being a world-class concert pianist. As an attorney and an artist, Darrin is uniquely able to understand the needs of both management and artists in the entertainment business. He has represented the entire spectrum of clientele within the arts and entertainment industry, from starving artists to orchestras, talent agencies, ballet companies, and established celebrities.
After finishing law school in D.C., Darrin started off as a New York contract attorney in 1994. From 1998 to 2004, he worked at Tisdale & Nicholson LLP doing complex commercial business litigation with emphasis in entertainment related matters. Since 2004, Darrin opened up his own private practice, offering insight and advice on intellectual property due diligence, licensing, industry-specific valuations, and other matters related to the acquisition and/or sale of assets or companies. Darrin’s corporate work includes assisting clients in shaping capital structures and raising debt and equity capital. In addition, he leads negotiations in recording and publishing deals; festival formation; touring; merchandising and sponsorship agreements; and other business arrangements that entrepreneurs face.
Darrin’s expertise has also been sought after by law schools, such as Abraham Lincoln School of Law, Chapman School of Law, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and DC School of Law, where he has helped to educate the next generation of attorneys. His wide-breadth of experience and understanding of legal issues companies face—from formation to breakup—makes him ideally suited to serve as the firm’s usual first contact with a new client. Darrin is admitted to the state courts of California, Arizona, Colorado, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.
